The value of a law degree – part 4: a perspective from employers

Rising costs, an increasingly competitive graduate jobs market, and the introduction of alternative routes to highly skilled employment, have led many question “value” higher education courses. This is fourth in a series papers which examines value law degree from range perspectives: Part 1 explored theory marketing discipline attempt identify full possible components; 2 analysed online prospectus pages over 50 UK schools understand aspects were being articulated market; 3 reported on life history interviews conducted with past present students university, ultimately presenting student viewpoint. final paper provides perspective employers. It reports findings qualitative study comprising 13 semi-structured people who responsibility for trainee solicitor recruitment England Wales. The data reveals that whilst these influential individuals are guided by their own diverse perceptions, they appear reflect common view legal profession changing, needs respond.
